Fountains of Wayne Skip the Hit

Fountains of Wayne prove to be a smart choice to kick things off. The band's sunny pop songs are perfect background music for those that are just trying to get situated. People are snapping pictures of their groups of friends, examining the schedule, guzzling water.

FOW singer Chris Collingswoth noted at the beginning of the set that he hadn't "been awake this early since the '80s." It doesn't show in the performance, which has enough energy -- and more importantly catchy hook after catchy hook -- to win over the audience.

One of the more distracting aspects of the day will certainly be the giant scroll above the stage that displays texts people can send to a certain number. So while FOW plays country-rock ditty "Hackensack" you can see enlightening messaged such as "my boss thinks I'm at work today!" and "bobby allen rules!"

The band's biggest hit, "Stacy's Mom," is curiously absent from the setlist but nobody seems to care all that much. "Radiation Vibe" got a few fist pumps but right now you're most likely to see arms in the air when it's a dude taking his shirt off.
