Round One: Campaign Websites

Former governor Mark R. Warner (D) has been a U.S. Senate candidate for two months. Former governor James S. Gilmore III (R) has been a Senate candidate for two days.
Who do you think has the better website?
You can find Warner's website here. You can find Gilmore's website here.
You may notice one distinction. Warner's website doesn't include a section outlining his views on the issues yet. But Gilmore's includes his positions on illegal immigration, energy independence, taxes, transportation, education and terrorism.

Warner's site offers very little aside from a virtual "shrine" to Mark Warner and a contribute button. Nothing on there about what he'll actually do. And from the looks of it, as the above commenter pointed, it's just some sort of blog template and won't be expanded on much without completely scrapping it.
At least Gilmore's offers some issue statements and the beginnings of a volunteer center.

Definitely Gilmore's site. Warner's is just a basic blog that it looks like they barely update. Other than talking about how great Warner is, it offers voters absolutely no information about the Senate candidate. Gilmore's has issue sections, downloadable graphics, and links to social networking sites.

Mark Warner is a god. He doesn't have to tell people where he stands on the issues. All he has to do is say "I'm Mark Warner" and Virginians will vote for him. So what if he is liberal and doesn't want to admit on paper. He doesn't have to. He's Mark Warner.

Warner's web team should be fired. They obviously have never done this before.

Mark Warner's website has absolutely no substance, much like him.

When I emailed to ask the Warner team about their website, I got a response that said that their current website was just a temporary site where we, the supporters, would get updates from the campaign trail, and that a newer, more comprehensive site will be launched next year when Mark Warner makes his "official announcement."
I guess that means he's going on an announcement tour at some point next year, which is when he'll publicize his positions on things. The Warner people seem to be wanting to keep quiet until they have a specific opponenent. Keep in mind the Gilmore still has to convince other Republicans that he is the one that deserves the nomination, which is why he needs his issues up there.
Warner is probably just bidding his time, waiting to come out swinging.

Gilmore's site is nauseating. It's too unorganized -- there's too many things going on and it's just plain ugly.
Yeah, Mark Warner's doesn't have much content, but you know where everything is, and he's using the latest web technology, not just a blog, but youtube videos, audio files, and flickr slideshows. And they seem much more open to interactivity than the Gilmore folks.

You know where everything is on Warner's site because there are two things, a contribute page and their blog. How is that using the latest technology?

You have to remember that if you\'re a Democrat then you\'ll be posting about how Warner\'s site is better, no matter what. It could redirect to midget porn and they\'d be here telling us about how it was using the latest video technology and was inclusive of minorities.

I've signed up for Warner's e-mail list twice in the course of two months and haven't received a thing, not even a "thanks for signing up" e-mail!

Jim Gilmore's site offers more functions, issues and graphics. Mark Warner's seems to be a blog template. He must be using Wordpress or something.
