Marshall Edges Closer to Senate Race

Del. Robert G. Marshall (R-Prince William) said Thursday he is forming an exploratory committee as he considers running for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate against former Gov. James S. Gilmore III next year.
"I am pleased that many Republican party leaders, in addition to grass-roots citizens, have encouraged me to run,'' Marshall said in a statement.
Marshall, known for his conservative views on social issues, led the fight against the recently approved transportation bill and helped win passage of a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and civil unions. He was reelected this year with 58 percent of the vote.
In a statement sent to reporters late Thursday afternoon, Marshall said supporters "agree on the need for a Republican candidate who fully supports the protection of the right to life from conception to natural death, the defense of fundamental constitutional liberties especially in times of crisis, preserving our right to property, securing the just fruits of our labor, and recognizing the duties we have to neighbor and conserving the gift of God's created world for our children."
Marshall said his exploratory committee consists of:
Sen. Ken Cuccinelli II (R-Fairfax)
Shaun Kenney, who recently resigned as spokesman for the Republican Party of Virginia
Patrick McSweeney, a former chairman of the state party
Walter Curt of Harrisonburg
Tony Kostelecky, a Manassas GOP activist
Russ Moulton, past chairman of the 1st Congressional District Republican committee
Kay Gunter, a member of 10th district state central committee
Mark Tate, former mayor of Middleburg
Rick Boyer of Campbell County
Mike Meredith past chair 6th Congressional District Republican committee.
The Republican nominee will likely face Democrat former Gov. Mark R. Warner in the general election.

If this means he would have to give up his Delegate's seat, God must be smiling upon us.
In spite of what Del. Marshall claims.
