Hurst Endorses Connolly
Andrew Hurst, the 2006 Democratic Congressional nominee in the 11th District, has endorsed Gerald E. Connolly in the party's June 10 primary.
Hurst, who garnered 44 percent of the vote despite being heavily outspent by incumbent Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R) said in a statement today that with House Democrats in the majority, the party needed a candidate "with a proven record of legislative accomplishment and ability to work across party lines. We can set the agenda now, and we need people who can get that agenda done. In the Eleventh, Gerry Connolly is that person."
Connolly, chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, is contending with former U.S. Rep. Leslie L. Byrne, Navy veteran and neighborhood activist Doug Denneny and Mount Vernon physical therapist Lori Alexander for the nomination.
Hurst said the district "would be well served by any of these fine candidates," but that with Davis retiring and Democrats poised to re-take the White House, it was "a time for leadership and statesmanship" that Connolly could best provide.

Andy Hurst is a great guy and he ran an awesome campaign at a distinct monetary disadvantage against Mr. Davis. All democrats are very proud of Andy.
Andy Hurst's enthusiatic endorsement of Gerry Connolly is another strong voice recognizing that Connolly has shown the type of progressive leadership in his role as Fairfax County Board Chairman that we need in congress.
Connolly is known for getting things done and the endorsements of him by local leaders and respected democrats like Andy are piling up.
Connolly will make a great congressman from the 11th District, and he will get things done in Washington.
