Connolly Brings on the Green on St. Pat's Day
St. Patrick's Day may not be, as Fairfax Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly likes to joke, "the holiest day of the year." But for Connolly it's certainly the most profitable.
Connolly, running for the 11th District Democratic Congressional nomination, will once again celebrate with high and low-end fundraisers. He'll hold a $1,000-a-plate lunch at the Tower Club in Tysons Corner, followed by his 14th annual fete Monday evening at the Kena Temple on Route 50, where Democrats will pay $35-a-head for beer, corned beef and cabbage.
Last year's lunch brought in about $300,000 for his campaign for a second term as Fairfax Board chairman, which he won in November.

And Mom, for your information, most of the attendees at the Saint Patrick's Day fete are hardly "Big" donors.

Connolly has abdicated fiscal responsibility with his interference in FCPS. Connolly, Hyland, Albo, Davis know the financial situation in Fairfax. Even if the budget was not difficult they are continuing to pursue capital projects that are not needed. Now the plan is to build an addition at South County Secondary School with 10 million from the Board of Supervisors and 2 million from the school board.
That would put the capacity at about 3000 for a high school after the board targeted approximately 2000 as the ideal high school. It also is simply an interim measure until they build the unnecessary South County Middle School.
Connolly wants to leave a legacy and I guess his votes are intended to come from the parents at South County. Are there more of them than the rest of us in his Davis District Run? Are there more of them than exist in the rest of Fairfax or Providence District?
How stupid are we? The new scheme is on the FCPS board meeting minutes dated March 10, 2008.
Last time I checked that was after the Griffin Budget presentation .

Seems like Gerry is more worried about helping out his real estate developer friends (like the folks who will be at this fundraiser) than the children of Fairfax.

there were hundreds of democrats, including dozens of kids, at connolly's evening fundraiser where $35 got you food, drink and irish music.
the only other democrat i've seen pull in so many people is warner

It's good to know that Gerry has rich friends.
As an 11th District voter, though, I wonder what these big donors think they are getting for their money and what Gerry has promised them.
