Warner Dismisses Suggestions He is Eyeing VP Slot
Former Gov. Mark R. Warner is dismissing speculation that he might drop out of the U.S. Senate race if offered the vice-presidential slot on Sen. Barack Obama's ticket.
The New York Observer reported Friday that Warner told supporters in New York he isn't ruling out running for vice-president if Obama, who has yet to secure the Democratic nomination, asked him to be his running mate.
The Observer speculated that either Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) or former lieutenant governor Donald S. Beyer would run for the Senate if Warner dropped out of the race.
The article noted that many of Warner's high-profile Virginia supporters are also backing Obama. Warner has remained neutral but his wife, Lisa Collis, endorsed Obama.
But Kevin Hall, a Warner spokesman, played down the article.
"Neither he nor I were asked to comment for that column," Hall said. "The governor is actively engaged in a U.S. Senate race and he is working hard six days a week to earn the privilege of taking his brand of results oriented leadership to the Senate."

He knows better than to join an '08 Dem. ticket that can't win. McCain wins in '08. He's ancient. Warner wins in '12.

On the subject of a potential Obama administration, there is an interesting project in pure democracy just getting started on the web: automated and continuously updated 'approval style' voting on VP, cabinet, and major posts. Approval style voting means you can vote for as many of the choices as you approve. The results are instantly viewable and the system is reasonably tamper proof (won't allow multiple voting from the same computer). The lists of nominees are continually expanded to include all other reasonable suggestions. Voting may be anonymous and votes may be changed at any time. So Warner is holding out hope for Obama? He needs to be focused on his own campaign, especially since I've already made a financial contribution to it.
