Del. Marshall's Wife Clashes With Corey Stewart
Prince William County supervisors continue to deal with the aftermath of budget cuts.
Several citizens showed up at today's board meeting to lament cuts to the county's budget, including the Manassas senior day program.
One of the people who spoke was the wife of Del. Robert G. Marshall (R-Prince William), who is locked in a tight race for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate with James S. Gilmore.
Cathy Marshall said her 80-year-old father, Edward Fonseca, uses the senior day program several times a week. She implored the board to reconsider its decision.
Chairman Corey A. Stewart, a Marshall ally, declared an uncharacteristic moment of personal privilege to deliver a terse response.
"When this board cuts a program, it's not an easy decision. We are in a state of budgetary crisis. We can either substantially increase taxes or reduce expenses," said Stewart (R-At Large).
"One thing I cannot consider is whether or not [Del. Marshall's] father-in-law is in that program. I will not do that. That is not fair to this county. I must make decisions about what is good for this county as a whole."
Cathy Marshall called Stewart's response "a cheap shot. I'm not asking him to keep it open for me." She said she will continue to try and get the board to reinstate the program.
"I don't count odds," she said.

Credit to Corey Stewart for going right to the heart of the matter, when most politicians would have tried to talk their way around it.
I wonder what Del. Marshall's position on this is when speaking with his wife?

Good job, Corey. He is absolutely right. His job is to do what is in the best interests of PWC.

Go Stewart! And maybe someone should ask why it is the responsibility of Prince William County to entertain a U.S. Senate candidate's father-in-law.
