Warner Spends More Than $4 Million

Former governor Mark R. Warner (D) has already spent $4.2 million on his bid for the U.S. Senate.

Warner has raised $9.3 million since he got into the race in September, and has $5.1 million left in the bank, according to his latest campaign finance report, which was first reported on by the Associated Press.

Warner raised $2.9 million in April, May and June. His Republican opponent, former governor James S. Gilmore III, is still working on his quarterly fundraising report, which is due to the Federal Election Commission by July 15. Gilmore spent about $1 million to secure his party's nomination in May.

Warner ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination, but launched a large television ad buy in early June. Warner appears to have spent more than he raised in June. On May 21, when Warner had to file a interim finance report, he had about $5.3 million in the bank.
