Mobile Update: News Alerts and More

Users of mobile phones and other wireless devices can now choose from several new services provided by washingtonpost.com.

First among them are free news alerts, which provide instant access to the latest and most important headlines of local, national and global interest. Two are currently available:

The News Alert, which covers national and global topics. To subscribe, from you cell phone text the word NEWS to 97678 (WPOST).

The D.C. Area Alert. Subscribers will receive this alert, which covers top Washington, D.C.-area news stories, as well as the News alert. To subscribe, from your cell phone text the word LOCAL to 97678 (WPOST).

To unsubscribe from either alert at any time, text STOP to 97678 (WPOST)

We are also now accepting subscriptions for a third alert covering breaking Washington Redskins news. To subscribe, text message REDSKINS to WPOST (97678). You'll begin receiving messages this spring.

Among the other new mobile offerings:

Sports readers can participate in a weekly mobile poll. Read the question on the front page of Monday's Sports section, then follow the printed instructions to vote. Up-to-the-moment results will be sent to you immediately; you can also see full results in the following week's Sports section.

The site's organization has been updated to make it easier to find news articles and other content -- including the writing of columnists David Broder, E.J. Dionne and Charles Krauthammer, and the Post I.T. technology blog.

Mobile readers now have some additional tools at their disposal. Articles can be e-mailed to a friend or to yourself for future reading, and readers can search for archived articles using their mobile devices.

To visit The Post's mobile web page, point mobile device or web browser to mobile.washingtonpost.com or twp.com. A full list of mobile options can be found on our mobile services page.
