A View of Sathniwasapura
View PanoramaTo help you get a better feel for the people and places I am writing about in this blog, washingtonpost.com sent staff video-journalist Travis Fox to Sri Lanka. Travis is here with me now, and we are working closely together. Over the next few weeks, his photos and videos will become an increasingly important part of this project.
One of his specialties is a 360-degree panoramic shot. Here is a panorama of Sathniwasapura, Sujith's village. Sujith's house, which he shared with his parents and brother's family, is the white house featured prominently in the panorama.
When the tsunami struck, Sujith's wife grabbed their infant daughter in her arms and ran out the front door to the house with the tiled roof that you can see just to the right, toward the back of the picture. They were trying to climb onto the roof when a monster wave washed both of them away.
