Naming Gilbert's Son

ATLANTA - Funny exchange before the game last night: Antawn Jamison was explaining how he was allowed to give his son the title, "Jr.," even though their first names are spelled differently.

As Jamison got ready to go to the training room, Gilbert Arenas stopped him and said, "Your son is not a junior. Your name is An-Tawn. His name is An-Twan."

Arenas was then asked if he planned on naming his son -- who is due some time next week -- Gilbert. "No," Arenas said. "I was thinking of something different. I thought about Caleb."

He has since passed on that one. I asked Gilbert if he was going to give his son a cool Latin name, to go with his last name. "No," Arenas said.

Arenas then said he wanted a creative name for his son. "I was thinking about Deuce," he said.

I was like, "Deuce? You might has well name him Gilbert Jr., because 'Deuce' is basically short for Gilbert II."

Of course, at the time I completely forgot that Gilbert is actually Gilbert Jr. Then Gilbert set me straight. "No, Deuce," he said. "Like Deuce Bigalow!"

The gigolo? Arenas then decided he'll have something figured out when the time comes. We are eagerly awaiting aren't we? You guys have any suggestions?

Habachi, That way the kid would think Dad's thinking of him when he shoots!

Posted by: GM | March 8, 2007 8:37 AM

Dilbert Arenas.

Posted by: DC Man88 | March 8, 2007 8:45 AM

Should have known - we else could we expect???

Posted by: Lisa | March 8, 2007 8:53 AM

Antwan Arenas Jr.

Posted by: AV | March 8, 2007 9:27 AM

Talkin' to me? What's wrong with Dilbert? There used to be a brother duo that played HS football locally. I think their names were Andre and Dondre. There are much, much weirder names out there like Lawyer Malloy, Arvee Storey, Priest Holmes, LeCharls McDaniel, LaMarcus Aldridge, Tiki and Ronde Barber, etc.

Gilbert and Dilbert is kewl!

Posted by: DC Man88 | March 8, 2007 9:39 AM

Hey if he were Gil Arenas III he could just go by 'Tre'.

Tre's alright, que no?. Lil Tre'. Terrible Tre. Three-ball.

After all that's Gil's money shot. (Uh, so to speak).

Alternatively 'Tres' becomes 'Trace' en ingles. 'Trace' Arenas. Sounds cool, but a bit girlie maybe, Tracy Morgan and Ice-T excepted).

My three cents.

I like caleb and the middle name should be clutch.
Caleb Clutch Arenas

Posted by: nick | March 8, 2007 12:34 PM

I think he ought to play off of two things... first, he is Agent Zero, second his son will be born in 007. So how about James Bond Arenas? Or just Bond?

Posted by: swagfield | March 8, 2007 1:24 PM

obviously, his name should be Zero Arenas.

Gilbert should shut up and forget about "Agent" this and "Deuce" that (spare me THAT name) till he wins a title in what is a watered down less-than-mediocre league. Then he can do whatever he wants.

Posted by: muskrat | March 8, 2007 5:44 PM

Tito Arenas. Will always stay in rhythm, will help his offbeat pops do the same while he's still playing...

Posted by: Ntlekt | March 8, 2007 5:46 PM

I pray that he receives a normal name and not a Spell It Name where the kid says his name and the response is Spell It. Whatever happened to normal names spelled in a normal way such as Robert, Mark, Michael, Matthew, Christopher and Caleb to name a few? Please do not saddle the kid with some ridiculously made up name.

Ernie and Abe.

Good old-fashioned names that 'everybody knows how to spell': Abram Ernest Edward Montgomery Arenas.

Or pick another Biblical name, something traditional, like... Deuteronomy.

(Sure you could still call him 'Deuce' for short. Or 'Dooter'. 'The Dude'. 'The Little Lebowski').
--

I stil like the concept of naming him after an integer. Ace, Deuce, Tre.

Moses Malone's favorite 'Fo'. Fo Fo Fo...

Five. Five is a good solid prime number. Good old Five. Everyone's favorite times table.
--

Nah, name him after me:
Doc Diggety/
laid back but fidgety,
eschew your basic bigotry/
gotta Figure B./
there's nobody
who's bigger'n me/
better'n me/
--a veteran G/
Old school like the classics./

Who's got more chops to name the lil' bastid?/
than me: the deeohcee,
doctor of monikers,
Master Nomenclator
to a level sub-atomic or
smaller./

I'm a name your little baller
your bald headed drooler,
your diaper draped asassin
no taller than a ruler.
The bib wearing dribbler,
(takes after his daddy)
faster than a flasher
And more flash than a Caddy.

Call him:
Julius Arenas
after Black Jesus
and the Caesar.
Emperor of the blacktop
leaves opponents in a seizure,
openmouthed in awe at the style and the skills.
Born and bred and bound to leave the people sin chills.

Or nevermind the advice of the funk doc seuss/
go ahead, do your thing, and name the kid Deuce. That's cool too.

--uh, right. Sorry. Pardon the interuption. Cipher over.

Hopefully by the time the kid is a little older society will treasure kids who read books and like to learn more than kids who can toss a ball through a net and worship dysfunction and acting moronic. The active word is: Hopefully.

WHO IS GILBERT'S BABY MAMA? AND WHAT IS HIS OTHER CHILD'S NAME? DO THE BALLER BELEIVE IN MARRIAGE?

Posted by: PTE | March 23, 2007 11:08 PM

hey muskrat! you complain how no one has lives yet you post 3 times here to hate? you should get a life...get off the internet, stop playing video games, put down the mcdonald's fries and coke...better yet, go outside and breathe some fresh air, get that heart rate up and do something active, and live in the real world.

who is the baby mama? who cares. is it really any business of anyone?! does it make a difference in anyone's life whether someone is married, or not, before having children (not only specific to "ballers"). it's really between the people involved...
