Saturday update

The players were given a day off after getting back from Chicago late last night but will have a quick turnaround with Chris Paul and the Hornets coming to Verizon Center tomorrow evening. The Wiz won 95-92 in New Orleans thanks to DeShawn Stevenson's game-winning 3 but the Hornets have bounced back with impressive wins over the Suns and Jazz.

"They're going to be ready for us, especially me," said Stevenson, who scored a career-high 33 points Monday night. "They're going to have a chip on their shoulder so we're going to have to be ready."

By the way, I can't write what DeShawn said to get ejected last night. Just know that it was the kind of thing that will get a player ejected. Quickly.

On a semi-personal note: I wanted to let folks know about a benefit that is taking place tomorrow evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Nick's Riverside Grill at the Georgetown Waterfront. I know, that's right when the Wiz are playing but I thought I'd post it just in case some of you out there remember Keith Johnson, the happy go-lucky bartender who worked at Nicks for a long time. (You may remember him: big brother with locks and he always wore some old-school sunglasses). The guy always had a cold drink and a friendly word for anyone who walked up to his bar, even a certain thirsty sports writer.

Sadly, Keith recently passed away so his colleagues and friends are putting something together to raise a little coin for his son, Jalen. Check out this site for more information.

Keith will be missed.
