The latest

Haven't been able to substantiate this morning's rumor that the Wiz (18) and Rockets (25) want to swap picks but from the chatting I've done, it's clear that Ernie Grunfeld is open to moving down into the later part of the first round if he can find a deal he likes.

Chad Ford of espn.com reported that the Wiz had talks with Detroit last night but, if that's true, I haven't been able to get a read on the specifics discussed. I wish I had more concrete info but everything in this draft is murky and it's hard to know what to believe. A lot of rumors are flying around throughout the first round. All I can tell you is that Ernie has been extremely active in discussing tonight's happenings. Stay tuned.

Has a reporter ever set up a wire-tap on a GM?

Domo, do you expect every team to acknowledge the potential deals they have brewing?

Posted by: Anonymous | June 26, 2008 4:30 PM

Just went to that link posted above, and it doesn't say much. Of course the Wizards like Roger Mason, but he's a free agent now and they might not have enough money left to sign him. He's due to make some money, but who knows.

trade back into mid 20's, get a veteran and then draft this OJ mayo kid. he looks to be the real deal. he has good offense skills and looks good at defense.

Jose for GM.

Trading for Luther Head does not make everyone want to go out and buy season tickets, but it does add stability to the backcourt by adding someone who can help with the PG duties, shoot the 3, and has playoff experience.

My 1st post here.

This Luther Head trade is laughable at best. With Gilby out for the first three months next season, we're already going to be leading the east. Why add this Head-case to Les Boules?

I meant DJ

Jose, how do you trade down to the mid 20's and then draft OJ Mayo? I really want to know how that works.

Do you have some insider info that says the top 25 teams are going to pass on Mayo?

Draftexpress now has us taking Greene

As a Kansas fan and a Wizards fan. I think we should take Darrell Arthur if he's still there. I watched him play all year and he's the closest you will get to a Michael Beasley type player at 18. He didn't put up the eye popping numbers that Beasley did but mostly because he did need to on that team. He's not as good as Beasley (can't shoot three's as well) but really not that far behind. He's super skilled and can play the 3 and the 4, great mid range jump shot and post moves and a good defender.

I LOVE SPEIGHTS!

EG said in a recent interview he reads your blog Ivan. PLEASE TELL EG to draft SPEIHTS!!!

draftexpress was impressed to the max
Check out this workout they had with him.

We walked away from the first day shaking our head at what we witnessed--a 6-10, 20-year old power forward who is about as skilled a big man facing the basket as you will find in this draft. "He's really more skilled than anyone knows," Joe Abunassar told us. The first thing you notice is how fundamentally sound Speights' shooting mechanics are. He's got a natural, flawless stroke, showing small-forward like elevation creating separation from his defender, a high release point, excellent body control on his fade-aways, great technique squaring his shoulders and his hips simultaneously in perfect unison--and not surprisingly, getting unbelievable results in the process. He operates strictly on the balls of his feet as he catches and fires away, draining shot after shot from 16-18 feet with machine-like efficiency, and then proceeding to step-away and knock down college and even NBA 3-pointers with impressive accuracy as well.

In the post, he has a beautiful hook-shot and an even prettier turn-around jumper, to go along with great hands, length and size for his position and excellent agility finishing around the hoop. On top of that, there was nothing resembling any of the problems Speights had with his conditioning back at Florida, as he's looking to be in phenomenal shape and had no problem at all finishing up his workout in very strong fashion. "He has really has worked on his body and conditioning," Abunassar told us. Needless to say, we came away almost floored at what we saw--telling basically anyone that would listen that we're talking about a starting NBA power forward any day of the week.

I seriously think he may be the best big man in this draft!!

RealGM loves Speights as well.

NOt to mention in college how ridiculously good his per 40 minutes stats were.

Freshman year: 28 points, 15 rebounds, 3 blocks, 68% FG (played 6 mpg)

Sophomore year: 25.5 points, 14.2 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, and 64% FG (played 22 mpg)

You also just described Roger Mason.

I heard Detriot is making a push for Baron Davis. If that happens you can put them right back in the finals.

Come on EG, get a clue man. :(

For what it's worth, the Detroit Free Press reported there was no truth to the Davis/Billups rumor. They claim the two sides hadn't even spoken.

Luther Head is going to make about 1/3 of what Mason probably will get.

yeah i hear ya, Toronto also got JO, CLE has apparently been after Redd for awhile now to. Makes you wish Gilbert would man up and actually take a big pay cut so we could sing some decent FA's but i highly doubt that.

But from what it looks like EG has been trying to shop the pick so im gonna hold my breath until after the wiz name is called tonight. EG has made some real nice decisions for us thus far so i have some faith in him.

I agree.

And, I think over time, he'll provide the post scoring that AJ never did.

Two minutes too late...imposter.

Posted by: DC Man88 | June 26, 2008 6:06 PM

The Wiz should trade Gilby to the Memphis at the 5 spot in hopes of landing Kevin Love.

PG: Anyone but GIlby
SG: Stevenson
SF: Butler
PF: Jamison
C: Love

This is a championship team.
