Out-of-Control Fans
A Post article on bumbling, inebriated and annoying sports fans has readers voicing choice complaints on ball games gone bad.
RalphZero confesses that its hard to be on your best behavior when your team is on the line. "I was at some Redskin game a couple years ago and some drunken obnoxious Redskin fan started funneling Pabst Blue Ribbon and the moron puked all over my shoes and seat...wait a minute...never mind...that was me!!!"
Ah, yuk, yuk, yuk. I mean yuck, yuck, yuck!
Sonny007 is not happy to see fans getting bad press. "I have been told many times from various NFL fans around the world that Redskin fans are usually considered extremely fair and knowledgeable. How I hate to see that assumption ruined by bad behavior."
The time of the game makes a big difference in the fans' behavior, says bambam1963, but warns the club to manage the stadium scene more effectively. "...if it is a 1pm game usually there is no problem. If it is a 4pm game, then I warn my teenagers about the increased drunkenness and language... If it is a night game... my teenagers aren't allowed to come, not just because it is a school night, but most importantly of the worsening behavior of the fans and not to mention the potential for violence with boorish fans of other teams ...I know Karl Swanson and company are doing all they can, but they need to ...find the flaws/holes in their rules so that they can truly clean up the fan situation and make it a more enjoyable entertainment event."
And BillW83 sees a double standard at the games. "If you get drunk in public, then you should be locked up. The police give a lot of room at Games, that they would not give on the street."
How many post-game roadblocks are set up, I don't know.

Dear sirs, On my way to the airport to pick up returning new year revellers I had the radio on and it was relaying the 4 am gmt BBC news. In same there was a report on a poll of US service personnel regarding their attitudes to the Iraq war and how our troops views had pretty drastically changed recently. Since I was driving I was unable to concentrate fully on the report but consoled myself that I could pick up the information in the morning when I perused your paper. I dont see mention of the same report in either your paper or the NYT -how come something of this significance is not reaching the light of day in our media? Surely we can all agree that asking soldiers to run the risk of death or severe injury for a cause that they,as a group, do not fully believe in is asking more than we should ask.

see what happens when the Redskins win. Things will be better. As far as fan behavior, what can you expect with FedEx now the largest stadium in the league.
Its bigger and more impersonal than RFK was...
