Redskins Slay Cowboys, Fans Cheer
It's fair game to heap superlative upon superlative on the Redskins after their round trouncing of the Cowboys Sunday at FedEx Field. But the only fair way to say it is to remember that this season it's hard to predict "which" Redskins will show up on the field each game. Will it be an error-prone squad hang-dogging through the game? Or the team that took the field this week, showing everyone what for? Football fans on washingtonpost.com hash it out.
Polo8one1 won't hide the glee, and doesn't mind looking back fondly: "The family kept the slider doors open for me and the screen. Every time I ran outside to bellow after each score, I could hear thunder. Was it FedEX? I believe it was RFK coming back to life. It was the image of George Allen and his clap and dance step over the stadium. I am RABID! ...Have a dedication for him at half time. He is the reason Redskins fans are RABID! BE LOUD!!!!"
But AAARedskins offers a slightly more tempered view. "The Redskins won this game primarily because they were able to overcome their ultimate weakness: Lack of a consistent pass-rush. My Gosh!!! Did they ever get after Bledsloe!!! The tough, in your face pass-rush the Redskins brought won the game.....and it was marvelous!!!!!!!Hail to the Redskins!!!!"
But RiggoForever wonders if Sunday's pass-rush was a fluke, or a sign that the team is finally gelling this year. Its hard to tell, cautions Ubiquitous1, arguing that an overeager sports press and commentators who play favorites muddy analysis of the game. He writes, "I have to give props to the playbook crew on NFL Channel...because they break the game down really well and pick the winner solely based upon the breakdown. The Inside the NFL crew is ok but only Collinsworth is objective. Everyone else ...is biased."
rocknrob1 remains celebratory and looks forward optimistically, though not without a dose of realism: "Damn, didn't see that coming, what a great day...but as much fun as it is to sweep the cowgirls...time to get back to the future.....the Giants will be a lot more dangerous offensively..."
Yeah, the Redskins have to start with beating the Giants and hope the fates conspire to flummox the other teams' standings, though the Skins' tie-breaker status offers a comforting fail-safe to fans. Again good luck, but this time I say it with a little less pessimism.
